Today, yet another hand of providence revealed. I would like to begin by first stating that I am totally humbled by the generosity of the doctors that have given me assistance. I would also like to say that I would like to commit to never, ever, forgetting how generous this help has felt. I am seemingly a young aspiring doctor with little credentials and low scores, but I have a desire and I will work with that desire until my dying day.
Here is a correspondence that inspires me and makes me more determined to become a doctor. I feel as if I am hearing from a coach or past player that has been through the grind, that has completed his necessary drills and is now sitting on a high rise, looking down at others striving to make it. I receive this assistance and advice as most inspirational and motivational.
Dr. A
Me
Dr. A,
I am only a few more pay-checks away from getting my Texas Alligator skin boots.
Greetings from Lubbock Texas. I am grateful for the encouragement I have received from you, "The King", for our move and pursuit of becoming a MD here at Texas Tech in Lubbock. I hope all is well for you in your practice and with your family!
I enjoy reflecting back on the conversations we had in your office and in the break room at the surgical center as I was able to observe you working with patients/patience and other doctors alike. Thank you once again for your allowing me to job shadow you for a few days.
During our last e-mail exchange you mentioned that much of the realization of my acceptance into Texas Tech would be the job I would have for the next 6-12 months. Along those lines I am seeking a job in the Ophthalmology department at the Texas Tech Health Science Center. Because it is in the Ophthalmology department I believe a letter of recommendation from an Ophthalmologist would help me significantly in getting this position. Would you be able to write a letter for me? The qualification they are specifically searching for are interpersonal skills. I hope there were positive characteristic traits I displayed as I worked alongside you. Upon getting this job, I believe it will do two things for me: 1) Allow me to work for the school I am seeking admittance & 2) Acquire hands on experience in the field of ophthalmology to leverage my opportunities for a position as a resident.
If you would be so kind as to write this letter I would greatly appreciate that. If you have any other specific questions I will reply promptly to provide whatever you need.
Thank you most sincerely!
Michael,
let me make a few calls. I remember you well and would be happy to help where I can
-Dr. A.
(later)
Michael,
I just spoke with A. E., MD (pediatric ophthalmology) at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He's going to ask around, but I suggested he also take a few minutes to meet you. I would call early next week and arrange to meet him for a few minutes. His number is
(Phone number)
Good luck!
-Dr. A.
I was floored. This was what I wrote him back:
Dr. A.
I'm literally blown away at your quick reply and immediate assistance. I appreciate you going straight to the top and recommending me to Dr. E. I wasn't anticipating anything more from you but a small letter of recommendation in a couple of days. Apparently I shouldn't think small with you. I well remember your professionalism and your personable nature which combination yields great networking skills. Thank you for going making such a big connection for me!
I will call his office first thing Monday and give it my best! I hold our association in high regards and hope to add to the vast interconnection of doctors helping others, very soon.
Thank you most sincerely. I will keep you updated.

(Just as I was attaching this e-mail this very moment I saw one more response)
just make me proud - I don't do this for every one.
response
I will.
Thanks.
As I mentioned earlier. I am very motivated by this gesture and interaction with Dr. A. I respect his advice and am honored to be referred by him. I pray I may one day have the opportunity to do the same for many many others.
